For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life. For God sent not His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved." John 3:16-17

My Thoughts:

I love to read any book that is set in the South as I live in South Carolina myself.  So when this book came alone I wanted to read and review it, so thanks to Glass Roads for sending me this book free for my review.

The story starts out in Jackson County, Florida when old man Caldwell drew his last breath on July 3, 1968.  Darlene was only six when her grandpa passed and she loved him and thought him to be a genuis in the things he could do.  As the years passes Darlene lived and raised her family in the same house her grandpa had died in.  She was right as rain being the "Queen" of the community until her twin sister returns home.

Then her sister Carlene lost her career as a Broadway star when she could no longer sing so she returns to Sycamore where she had lived as a child.  Then alone came the other sister Magnolia when she torn apart by a broken romance.  Nolie the other sister had never left Sycamore and never wanted to, she just wanted to stay put and care for her dogs.

How will these sisters ever get alone?  I laughted and cried alone with them and wish I still had my sister to disagree with.  I had six siters but they are all gone now and I feel so alone sometimes.  I really enjoyed this book, I have read other of Angela's books but I believe this is my favorite.

Deep River Books
Paper back, 143 pages

I passed this book on to my granddaughter and she read it for me, so I am going to post what she said.
First of all she loved anything to do about archelogical sites so she jumped right on.  She loved the discovery of the ancients skeletons as Will Evans was on a trip to the reservation and thought he was going to just play skateboarding and being lazy.  But when he arrived he and his friends begain a search to try their hand at finding out about a old take of a boy disappering while exploring the mountain.
She really enjoyed this book and I want to think Deep River Books for sending me this free book for a review.

MY STUBBORN HEART by Becky Wade

ISBN: 9780764209741, Paperback, 346 pages

My Thoughts:

I don't read many of contemporary romance, most of the time historical.  When this one was offered to me to review I took it and found it to be very enjoyable. When Kate Donovan has had about all she could stand at her job, she knew she needed to take on an adventure.  She went with her Grandmother to Redbud, Pennsylvania to help her fix up the old house she grew up in, Kate jumped at the chance for something new.

When Kate and her grandmother arrived she meet Matt Jarreau that had just lost his young wife and was really down.  When asked to help them restore the old house, he took on the job.

Becky was going to try her best to get him out of this depression he was in.  Will they become friends or more down the road.

I want to thank Bethany House for sending me this free book to review

No Greater Love

 ISBN: 9781414363080
Memoir
236 pages. paperback
Tyndale Publishing
Publication date: 6/22/2012

Overview

Levi Benkert was playing with his children in the park when he received an urgent phone call from a friend asking him to drop everything and fly to Ethiopia to help organize a rescue orphanage for children destined to be murdered as part of a tribal superstition known as “mingi killings.” Moved by his friend’s story, Levi packed his bags and left for what he thought would be a short two-week trip. But upon meeting the children, Levi knew there was no turning back. Six weeks later, Levi, his wife, Jessie, and their three young children sold their home and all their belongings and relocated to Ethiopia indefinitely. No Greater Love documents Levi’s journey—from the challenges he faced establishing and running the orphanage to finding adoptive homes for the children.

My Thoughts:

When Levi Benkert was asked to go to Africa and too see what could be done about the superstition of killing an infant if the baby had any defects.  The parents would kill their own children in able to keep away evil spirits. (It seems to me they were the evil spirit themselves) When he got to Ethiopia and saw what was going on and that he may be able to help save some of these children, he moved his family there.  They sold everything they had and planned to stay quite awhile.  This is the REAL story of that adventure and the children he saved from an evil tribe of people.

I know that this is great for a family to leave everything in order to help those in need.  The Bible says to leave all your belongings and follow Jesus.  Don't even bother with a coat or food that would be taken care of.  But you know~~ we hear so much about other countries and the Americans helping with money or themselves but there are so many children and older people here in America that really need this help themselves and I believe in taking care of our own country before going to other countries.

Thanks to Tyndale publishing for sending me this free book in order for me to review.

MY DEAREST NAOMI
by
Jerry and Tina Eicher

Publisher's Description

Jerry Eicher's many devoted fans will be enthralled by this endearing novel in letters based on Jerry's letters to and from his future wife, Tina, and their discovery that, indeed, absence does make the heart grow fonder.
When Eugene Mast leaves his Amish community in Worthington, Indiana, to teach in faraway Kalona, Iowa, he also must leave the love of his life, Naomi Miller.
For the next nine months of the school term, Eugene and Naomi keep their romance alive through love letters from his heart to hers, and from hers back to his.
Eugene writes of his concern that in his absence Naomi may find the attractions of another suitor to her liking. Naomi worries that Eugene may fall prey to the "liberal" Mennonite beliefs in the community where he now lives. Both can hardly wait until the school year is up and they're finally reunited.
A poignant and tender love story that will warm the hearts of readers everywhere.Â

I always love to read Jerry's books but this time his wife Tina worked with him.

Eugene Mast is in love with Naomi Miller but he is offered a job in Iowa to teach at a Mennonite school, as you this is just not done.  He will be cut off from his family and friends in the Amish community of Indiana, alone with his intended Naomi.
While he was gone he and Naomi wrote to each other letters and poems and savered the last one until another arrived.  It seemed like forever since Eugene left and Naomi wonders if he is ever coming back.

As most of the books are just the printed letters that are written back and forth and I always skip over those, for some reason it seem a wasted of my time and takes up so much of the book.

This book is different in that way and I didn't enjoy it as much as I have all the other books written by Jerry.

Thanks to Jerry Eicher and Harvest House for sending me this free book in order for me to review.

About the Author

Darrel Nelson is a graduate of the University of Lethbridge in Alberta, Canada, with bachelor's degrees in English and education. He is a schoolteacher by profession, with thirty-three years of teaching experience, and currently teaches fourth grade at Raymond Elementary School. Nelson has had an article published in Lethbridge Magazine and has written several dramatic plays, two of which won provincial recognition and were showcased at a drama festival. He won the CJOC radio songwriting contest two years running and has had one song receive international airplay. Writing has always been a passion, and over the years he has written four novels intended for the juvenile market. They are unpublished as yet, but he reads them annually to his fourth-grade students. The Anniversary Waltz is his first novel intended for the adult market.
My Review:
Sixty-three years is a long time as we have been married fifty-one years ourselves.  So I loved this book about an older couple, most are about young couples.  Thanks Darrel for thinking of my generation.  That being said I will get on with what I thought of the book its self.
As the story begins it is 2006 and Adam and Elizabeth are at their anniversary party and they were dancing the waltz as they had done for the past sixty-three years.
When Adam returned home to Reunion, Montana he was received with a hug from his mother but his father was still holding a grudge because he went to war and left them to manage the farm by themselves.  The farm had fallen apart and soon he found out they were about to loose it.  He went to the bank to his old friend Nathan Roberts to see what he could do, but Nathan would not work with him.  Soon he found out the reason was Elizabeth.
He went to a dance and saw Elizabeth Baxter dancing with his high school rival Nathan Roberts. When he got up the nerve to cut in, he knew this was the girl for him.
As the story continues you will laugh at some of things and you will cry alone with them at others. I am so happy to have received this free book from Glass Roads to review and to join this tour.  This may be Darrel Nelson's first novel but I sure hope there are more to come from him.  I really enjoyed it.

My Review:
This is a study book with a place to write and scriptures on where to find the answers.  Sometimes it is so hard to change the way we eat and exercise, but if you want to change your ways then this is the book that will help you alone the way.  It gives tips and some receips that will change our ways of cooking and studing God's word.
When I was asked to join this book tour I accepted thinking it would be a book with more useful help tips and receips to help me as a senior, but it is not quite like I though it would be.  But it still is a great book to turn too when life is just to hard to bear and those pounds just will not come off.  But God is always there for use and all we have to do it ask and listen for His answer, and it may not be what we want but it is His will.
Thanks to Glass Roads for sending me this free book so that I could do this review.

WHAT A PAIR

Ages 8 and up

153 pages

About the book:

Welcome to Holmes County, Ohio, where twins Mattie and Mark Miller can’t seem to agree on anything. When their disagreements start to cause big trouble in their Amish community, will these energetic nine-year-olds call a truce and acknowledge that their differences are what make them so special? You’ll fall in love with the first release in the Double Trouble series from bestselling author, Wanda E. Brunstetter.

My Thoughts:

There are so many mothers that are reading about the Amish faith and the families that make it up.  This is a book that your child can read that explains the faith and as they read alone with Mom.  In the front of the book there is an explanation telling what the Amish Faith is all about and it also has a list of the words that are different than we use.  So your child can understand as they begin to read this very good book.  I am a great-grandmother and I loved it and chuckled alone nodding my head as I read.

Wanda E. Brunstetter is one of the first authors that wrote only about the Amish, and she is one of the best.  There are so many now trying to get in on this popular story line, but I still love anything that comes out by Wanda.

Now about this book for the child age 8 and up.  The twins Mattie and Mark Miller of an Amish couple are so different you would never know in their actions that they are twins.  They are nine years old and do not agree on anything.  With this being the way they are you can bet they are always getting into trouble.

They would pull tricks on their friends and scare them almost to death and then the parents would have to step in.  As most children they always loved to go to their grandparents house but they didn't know that grandpa and grandma Troyer knew about all the little tricks they played, and they loved the little frog house grandpa came up with never realizing he knew about the frog Mark had put in the sugar bowl.

That is just a little sample of this story so go out or order your child one for some good summer reading.

Thanks so much to Wanda E. Brunstetter and Barbour Publishing for sending me this free book, so I could post a review.
