For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life. For God sent not His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved." John 3:16-17

A shocking discovery throws Harvard professor Jonathan Weber into the international spotlight---and could change the way the world sees the Bible. While touring Greek monasteries, he finds a manuscript that includes the lost ending of Mark and a 67th book. When the codex is stolen, Jon races to recover it---before it's lost forever!

MY REVIEW:

When Jonathan and Shannon Weber archaeologist found a manuscript having no idea what they had found.  But his find was something better that the "Dead Sea Scrolls" was this old manuscript the real thing or something someone had planted?  I was found tucked into a book so how could it have been there.

The manuscript was stolen Jon is found to be in a deadly race to try and find it and to prove if it was read or not.  He was so afraid that it may be lost now forever if he could not get his hands back on it.  This could be end of his career, his reputation and maybe even his life.  He is willing to risk all of these in his attempt to find out the truth about the manuscript.

This is an interesting book at little deep but plenty of suspense as Paul Maier tries to find out about the manuscript and the history behind it.  I found that it was a little hard for me to get interested in it as I usually read a different type of fiction.

This book was sent to be my GLASS ROADS public relations free and for me to review as I see fit.

Description

A fire killed his best friend and his lifelong dream of being a firefighter. The same fire killed her husband and hopes for a family. Can new dreams replace old? Lucas Vermontez was a proud firefighter like his father. Now, not only has he lost his father and his best friend, Zach, in the fire at the Grove Street homeless shelter, but the devoted rookie can no longer do the work he loves after being crippled in the tragic event. When friendship with his buddy's beautiful widow turns into more, he wonders, what could he possibly offer Jenna? Jenna Morgan is trying to grieve her husband's death like a proper widow, but the truth is, she never really loved Zach. His death feels more like a relief to her. But that relief is short-lived when she loses her home and the financial support of her in-laws. Now the secrets of her past threaten to destroy her future. Can the two forget the painful past and discover new reasons to live and love?

As the fire keeps burning Lucas Vermontez was inside the building alone with another fire fighter and when he heard his father's voice calling him, he knew that he had to find him and get him out before the old building collapsed on all of them.  He found his way out badly hurt but two of his co-workers and his dad did not.

A year later Lucas was still trying to get well and to be able to walk, a beam had fallen on his legs and badly injured them.  One of his co-workers and best friend Zach Morgan had been killed and he found himself helping his widow Jenna Morgan as she had struggled to keep her house and her standing in the upper class but was failing.  She had to sell her house and move in with her in-laws that lived in a grand house in a gated community.

Jenna had come from the other side of the tracks so to speak and Zach's parents had been the one that helped them out and made her see that she never wanted to go back, but it looks like that is where she is headed.  As she finds out she can not live in the house with her mother-in-law that has to know where she goes, when she will be back and who her friends can be.

As Jenna and Lucas get to know each other better, she finds out that it is not where you live or how rich you are but you can be happy anywhere as long as God is alone with you.  She learned to trust God and this was the best message of all.

A BABY FOR HANNAH
by
Jerry S. Eicher
ISBN: 9780736943369
Paperback. 277 pages

Another Amish story and this is the third in the series of "Hannah's Heart",   I didn't get to read the first two so I have no idea what happened before, but as this book begins, Hannah had lost a baby and is now pregnant again.  Her young husband Jake has drawn the lot so he is a young preacher for the Amish community.

There is trouble with some of their members as they are wanting to go to the Mennonites and the Bishop does not like that.  Jake does not agree with the other two ministers in what they want to do to the people that decide to change over and the ones that go to the Mennonite revival that is being held near the Amish community.
Young Jake has a lot of problems with being such a young preacher but everyone loves to hear him.  Hannah's older sister is coming for a visit and she is wanting to find her a beau while she is there but the young man she chooses, is not the young man that her aunt wants her to date.  Just because of his brother leaving the Amish they are holding that against him.

Will Hannah be able to carry this baby to full term and will her sister Miriam get her a husband while in Montana?

Thanks to the author Jerry and to Harvest House Publisher for sending me this book for me to review.

Product description
Warrior from Adelaide Warrior from Adelaide
by Richard Starrett Our ears rang from the violent explosions while we watched our ship dying from our heaving lifeboat. The S.S. John Witherspoon lay twisted and shuddering, gasping for air as the great broken hull slowly slid under icy waters. Our home and workplace, including all our possessions and familiar activities, was disappearing.
Born the son of an American diplomat and southern belle in 1919, Richard Starrett grew up in foreign lands that were ripe with adventure. However, confined to bed with a debilitating disease as a young boy, he could only dream of becoming a hero like the characters he read about in books. Set against the backdrop of World War II, Warrior from Adelaide follows Richard as he undergoes a radical medical procedure to cure his malady. He faces pirates outside of Hong Kong. He gains the acceptance of hardened shipmates as a greenhorn. He encounters German U-boats amongst the icebergs of the Arctic Ocean, and he courts the heart of a beautiful singer in New York City.
In his inspiring true story, Richard Starrett masterfully weaves a tale of adventure, war, love, and overcoming the odds.
300 pages - $21.99 (paperback)

My Thoughts:
Richard Starrett was born to an American diplomat and a southern belle back in 1919 and he grew up in lands away from America on the most part.  He loved adventure but had a bad disease when he was a young boy that had him in bed a lot of the time, so he always had adventure looking up at the ceiling and out at the moon and stars at night.

Around the time of World War II Richard's mother carried him to a place when there may be a cure for his illness. As he becan to get better and to get older he faced pirates near Hong Kong and got in with his shipmates and encounters German u-boats in and amoung the icebergs of the Arctic Ocean.

He finds himself in a life raft with a shunken ship behind them and nothing to look at except icebergs.  Will they make it?  Someone has to come alone and find them as they had no way themselves to get out of this cold sea.

About the Author

Max Elliot Anderson grew up as a struggling, reluctant reader. Using his extensive experience in the production of motion pictures, videos, and television commercials, he brings the same visual excitement and heart-pounding action to his adventure and mystery stories. Both boys and girls have reported that reading one of his books is like being in an exciting movie.

My Thoughts:

Max Elliot Anderson loved to write stories for young boys and this one is no exception.
Peyton Aldrich's father is in the army and is a colonel that specializes in intelligence.  Peyton and his family find themselves always living some place new because of his father's job.  He always manages to find some new friends everywhere he goes as all young boys can do.  He and his friends pretends to train themselves as rangers never knowing what they may be getting themselves into.  They find themselves in the middle of a terrorist plot.  Will they find themselves in deep danger or can they find themselves a way out?

THE
INCONVENIENT MARRIAGE OF CHARLOTTE BECK
by
KATHLEEM Y'BARBO

ISBN:  9780307444820
paperback, 337 pages
WaterBrook Press

Charlotte Beck was a young woman that usually got what ever she wanted and she was tired of listening to Miss Pence in telling her how to become a lady for the society.  She did not want to wear the "Corset" and have to walk as though she had an egg on her head.  She was at a party such as she had been trained for and felt as though she was going to faint with that dreaded corset on so she slipped behind a curtain so that she could get some fresh air.  It was a window and she was trying to get out it when she fell straight into the arms of a young gentleman (Alex) that was out looking for Jacob's comet that was supposed to be seen that night.  Colonel Cody of the Wild Bill west show was a very good friend of her family and he was at this party.  He later let her be in the show alone with her step-mother and they almost lost out of the Society group of people.

Charlotte loved to paint and she had some great paintings all over her father's house and she loved to paint the sky at night.  Her father wanted to set her up with a young man to marry but she wanted to go on to school and learn how to help him in his business.  Her father offered Danial a deal that he could not pass up as his family had already lost all their money and he needed something to keep them afloat so his mother and twin brother would not loose everything they had.

This really was a good read as all of Kathleen's books are with some fun blended in.  This book was sent to me by Blogging for Books for my review.

MY REVIEW:

Cleo Neilson is an seventeen year old and an only child, she takes ballet and her best friend is Lola who is moving away because of her dad's work.  They live in Riverside and the last night the girls wanted to go to a Christian concert in the city but, both mother's were using their cars and Cleo's mother forbid her to drive her dad's car, she was a very controlling mom as she didn't want anything to happen to her only daughter. Cleo's dad was out of town on a business trip and they were older parents near their sixties.

The girls planed a way to go to the concert without either mother knowing, but while they were there something terrible happened and they didn't know about it until the next day, and Lola had already left with her family to go to San Diego to join the father.

When Cleo found out about the murder she went into the bathroom cabinet and got some of her mom's pain pills and started taking them, then she got into more drugs just so she could get through the days and nights.  The story is about teens and how easy it is to get into the drug habit and how hard it is to get them out of your system.

As an older adult, I normally don't read young adult fiction, but as a blogger for glass roads, I received the novel free, "Shattered: A Daughter's Regret" by Melody Carlson,  for the purpose of writing this review.

KILOTON THREAT
by
William G. Boykin and Tom Morrisey

A Novel

Isbn: 978-0805449549
Paperback,
Release Date July 1, 2011
BH Publishers

This book consists of :The war on Terror" and as the Middle East is always in the headlines there is a threat for everyone on this planet.  As I am a Christine it would be fine with me if Jesus came back today, but there are so many out there that believes in idols and other so called religions that is would be terrible for.  As the Bible states "We are to have no other God's before us" and that means not to worship anything except what the Bible states.  I had better get back to the book I am writing a review on and now start writing my own book.

As the authors states in this book "Kiloton Threat" explores the power of a nuclear weapons that are really all over the world, not just the middle east.  Out of a house church a Christian pretends that he is a Muslim to gain a high ranking leader's confidence. When Blake Kershaw from the U.S. Special Forces enters the picture his mission is to find out things about Iran, but will he be able to get them out of that country without getting in trouble himself.

If you want a book that relates to the war and the troubles going on in the Middle East them you need to read this one.  The authors did a great job of putting their thought together as anyone can see on any news station there is trouble everywhere.

I think this would be a wonderful day day for the Lord to come again and He will put up with this as the Bible teaches us, but one of these days when He has enough you had better be ready as in a twinkling of an eye He will brust the clouds open wide and then it will be too late.

OGINALII
by
Stephanie M Sellers

E-Book

MY REVIEW:

I want to thank the author for sending me this book to read and review.
It is for a younger reading group than myself but it was a fun read. We all like to go back to our younger days and that you can do with this read.

Exilee is a little girl that has lost her mother which was Indian and even with Auntie Bell she still get lonesome so she just talks to the animals. She had a cat that she calls Yellow Cat, a buffalo friend that she named Oginalii. This animals belongs to the man on the next farm, he had saved him and he had 3 and one half legs with a wooden peg for the rest of the one that got messed up. Exilee is not afraid of him.
Auntie Bell has to see that she learns to play the piano but she does not look forward to that, but her mother played really well and she had to learn. As she sits on the bench he looks up at her mother's picture and tell her she wished she was still with her.

Auntie Bell teaches her about herbs and she gets really close to her as they spend time together.  There is a mystery here that they find under Exilee's Mother's picture.  This is a fun little story to read just the thing for the summer.

Corin Roscoe owns and antique store but is not selling anything, he need some customers when an elderly lady drives up with something in her truck covered up and wants to give it to Corin.   He really didn't know how to take this as no one has ever just given him an antiques, so when he got it into his store and uncovered it, there was just a plain chair, what is going to do with another chair.  But when he touches it something like an electric shock tingles his fingers, he had no idea what to think about this or was it his imagination. But the lady was determined that he was going to keep it, but she would not tell him who she was or why he should have the chair except that it was time to pass it down to him.

After a little boy sat in the chair and a few days later it was in the newspaper that something  had happened the little boy no longer had asthma. When Corin got to thinking about this he wondered then how old the chair was.  Jesus was a carpenter and could this have been a chair that he had made?  With that he made sure the chair was locked up in a vault to be sure no one could get to it until he could research if there were healing powers from something religious.

A mega-church pastor read about the chair and he thinks this is one he has been trying to find for many years and how much he could his church to grow if he could get this chair.  Strange things begin to happen and Colen had really bad dreams and his brother had been hurt and could really use the power of this chair if it really did heal.

I have read Book of Days written by this author and I really enjoyed it, and this was is just as good.  James has a way with bringing the unthinkable to something that make you wonder could this really happen?

Thanks to B and H Publishing for sending me this Advanced Reader's copy of this book for me to review.

THE RIVER QUEEN
by
GILBERT MORRIS

ISBN: 9781433673207
Paperback
Releases Nov. 2011
New Series of the River Boat era

Julienne Ashby was a young lady that grew up in the lap of luxury but when her father died living the family deeply owing everyone and mortgages on everything else.  She her mother, aunt,  brother and young sister had to leave their home with nothing but a few things that was not worth anything that could be sold.  When the lawyer gave her all her father's papers, they saw something that really amazed them maybe there was some hope after all.  There was a title of an old river boat that the boiler had blew up years before and it was just sitting on the Mississippi river.

That is when Dallas Bronte comes into the picture as is was a captain and a pilot of river boats, until an accident happened on one and he was blamed.  But he and Julienne moved the complete family onto the dirty and moldy boat.  The family learned how to clean and cook for themselves.

Can they get the money to fix the boat up where they can make a living with it, or is this also going to fail the family.

I have read a lot of Gilbert Morris' books but I think this one is the best of them all.  Some of them I just could not get interested in, so I really didn't know about this one, but it will really hold your attention as it did mine.  It is historical but not worded so that you need to be a historian to understand it.

Thanks to B and H Publishing for sending me this advanced reader's copy for my honest review.
