For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life. For God sent not His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved." John 3:16-17

John Day has created an easy to read, examination of Jesus' Sermon on the Mount, found in Matthew 5, 6, and 7.  John is a pastor and he and his family live in Washington. He enjoys his family and music, gardening and games.

John Day wrote this book in order to explain in more modern language of the Sermon on the Mount where Jesus was preaching and teaching.  This book is all about the Sermon and breaks it down so we can read and learn from it at out own pace.
Each of the  chapters is  brief and to the point. And yet each chapter contains  thoughts and ideas pertaining to the passage at hand. This book has chapter on marriage, loving your neighbor, sin, praying, the golden rule and so on.  It has twenty-two chapters and they each tell and explain a story.

This book is great as a help tool while you are studing your Bible.  Buy one for yourself and as Christmas is just around the corner, it would make a great gift.

 Love's First Bloom
by
Della Parr
Ruth Livingstone's life changes the day her father puts a young child in her arms and sends her to a small village in New Jersey under an assumed name. There Ruth pretends to be a widow with a small child while her Preacher Father is tried for murder of the child's prostitute mother.  They are sent to live with some of her Father's followers.

Asher Tripp is the  newspaperman who determines that this case is the event he can use to redeem himself as a journalist with his brother, who owns the local paper.

Ruth finds that tending a small garden along the banks of the Toms River is a place where she can find a measure of peace in the midst of the sorrow that continues to build. It is  here that Asher Tripp finds a temporary residence, all in an attempt to discover if the lovely creature known as Widow Malloy is truly Ruth Livingstone, the woman every newspaper has been looking for.

When Asher and Ruth meet it is anything but love, but as they get to know each other will love begin to bloom and it it does will it be strong enough to withstand the secrets that separate them?

 My Review:

The Preacher's Bride is a lovely read. As I read I was immediately transported back to the day of the Puritans of 17th century England. Set in the framework of the rancor between English Royalist and the Puritans, the book's message is that enduring faith, children and family try to avoid persecution. I read the book in two nights.  I learned the fates of John Costin, a tinker "called to mend souls not just kettles" and his housekeeper. Elizabeth Whitbread, the heroine of this Christian historical romance, who knows that God had led her to protect and help others. . Her personal experience as a mother of five has evidently enabled her to delve easily into the fanciful, innocent world of children. Her young characters literally jumped off the page into my heart. Particularly impressive is the characterization of Mary, the blind eight-year-old, whose sixth sense is awesome. The Preacher's Bride will keep you interested and reading until you reach the last page and then you want it to go on.

I have not read anything from this author Jody Hedlund nor about the Puritans and it was an interesting read.

I want to thank Bethany House for the book to review.

A Word from the Author: One thing that isn't generally known is that the book is based on real historical fact. There really was a vigilance committee in Montana run by Granville Stuart in Montana in 1884, right where it is in the story. I tried to stay historically as close to it and  as I could. Though they were vigilantes, they were the good guys. Stuart is a hero and is known to this day as Mister Montana.

My Review:
I am very proud to be able to read and review "The Vigllante's Bride by Yvonne Harris.  This story is set Chicago, Illinois, December 17, 1884.  Emily McCarthy is an orphan and at eighteen she was being forsed to go out into the world to make room for more children. Miss Beecham had seen an ad in the newspaper advertising for a bride, so she has make planed for Emily to go west and marry this man by the name of Bartholomew Axel a wealthy rancher in Repton, Montana.

Emily didn't want to leave but she had to do what they told her too do as she had no other place to live and there were not any jobs. She boarded the trail that would take her on the first leg of her journey, then she would have to change and go by stage.  The stage was held up and she was kidnapped by Luke Sullivan a former vigilante.  He had come back to work at an orphanage where he had grown up, he felt that he could not allow her to marry the evil man known as Bart Axel.

When she met Bart she then saw the evil in his eyes and was so glad she had been taken to the orphanage Aldersgate where she was allowed to stay and teach the children, two of which were Crow Indians.  The kidnapping did not go well with the old man Bart Axel and he was set to do something bad to Luke.

There were all kind of attempt to kill Luke and to try to get Emily back by Me. Axel, but they all failed as Luke was a fast draw and was not afraid of anyone. Emily and Luke did not get along at first but as Christmas drew near when her wedding was supposed to be held, hey begin to feel different about each other.

This is a very good book about the old west and the way things were.  It takes you back and I got lost in the pages and didn't want to lay it down.

My Review:
This book was set in the outskirts of Philadelphia, 1681 and it is about Bridget and her love.  In this age the parents could pick a mate for their daughter where she wanted it or not.  This is what happened to Bridget, but lets go back to her childhood.  She was riding her horse in the cornfield and saw a murder happen right before her eyes, and she ran and hid, but she saw the face of the killer.

This event carried all the way into her adult life, she was always afraid to go in the corn fields.  She fell in love with her father's indentured slave, but when she told her parents they would not consider it because he was beneath her social life.  They picked a man they wanted her to marry, not knowing his ugly past, and they were to be married on Christmas day.

Philippe the indentured slave was set free so that he would not be around Bridget, but the love they had for each other stayed in both of their young hearts.  Will she get to married the one she loves or will her parents force her to marry Edward?

A Plain and Simple Christmas

A Novella (Hardcover) $14.99

Bridgette Brooks ZONDERVAN

Read First Chapter here:

My Review:

This is another Amish book with a different twist. I have read Amy's first book "A Gift of Grace" and loved the author and the way it was written, well here is another one. Amy takes the Amish Faith and writes in a more modern way than some of the other writers.
Anna Mae McDonough was born and raised by Amish parents and in the Amish community, but when she met Kellan, "who was not Amish" and fell in love with him, he was not accepted by her community. Anna Mae had already joined the church so if she married him that meant she would be shunned, but she choose Kellan.

Kellan is a Christian man just not Amish so they moved to Baltimore where he owned and operated a car dealership. It had been three long years since Anna Mae had saw her people and she missed them so and she wanted to share with them that she was expecting a bobbli in January. She wanted to see them for Christmas so she wrote to her sister-in-law and see if she thought it would be alright to come to Lancaster, Pa. They both felt that it was in God's plan to get together and try to reconcile their family.

Will her dat accept this, he was the Bishop or will he still shun her. I started reading this book the day I received it and could not put it down, I read the complete book. It is so good, also such a beautiful book, would make a great Christmas gift for anyone on your list that reads. I also have to say as all of Amy's books she has some great Amish recipe's in the back.

This book was sent to me by Zondervan for my complete honest review, I give it 5 stars.*****

My Review:

Cisco, Texas-April 1883 Adelaide Proctor was a school teacher and had meet a book salesman and as she had never had a beau before, she was really taken with him, she gave up her job and went to find him after he changed his job. She was so surprised when the first day she met him alone with his wife and child. She had no idea what she was going to do until she saw an ad in the paper where a sheep farmer was needing a Governess for his small daughter. She applied and found out there were three more going for the interview. She got the job and she and the little mute girl bonded so well.

Adelaide always wanted a family as she really loved working here with the little girl and learned to love her as if she was her own child, she also liked the father. But will things work out and get Isabella to talk again and will she finally get the family she had always wanted since her father had died.

This book will catch you from the first page with it humor, love and mystery. This is the first book I have read from Karen Witemeyer but it will not be my last. She keep me so into the book I could not put it down, I read it in two days.

My Review:

Alaska 1897, aboard a steamship Ellen Pierce was on her way to the gold field to satisfy her sick brother Johan who has mental problems and she is afraid of him, as her mother on her death bed made her promise to take care of her brother. She had meet a man on board that had talked to her named Buck Lewis. They were racing with time as the river would soon freeze over. There was a large shaking of the ship and they all went up to see what had happened, and the ship was stuck in ice with no way to get it out until the thaw. Buck Lewis said he was not staying and more men wanted to go with him, along with them, Johan said he was going so that meant that Ellen had to go also.

This was a very hard and cold trip which took all the energy they could endure and only the strongest would survive the journey by foot to reach Dawson City. Johan didn't make it so that left Ellen alone with no where to go, upon arriving in Dawson City, she realized it was going to be very hard as she didn't have much money and everything was so expensive. With a very few options, she must learn to trust God for her survival.

This is the first book I have read by Carie but I loved the beautiful book and the story. It was well presented and is a book I will keep and read over. I ma looking forward reading more of her books in the near future.

I received this free copy of this book from B&H books in exchange for my honest review.

Product Description

Canadian-born archaeologist Mark Graham unearths a remarkable discovery while at a dig site in the mountains of Zimbabwe. Fossilized remains of a pterodactyl are found carefully buried alongside those of gigantic human bones. Speculation leads to the possible existence of a mythical race known as Nephilim, a pre-flood people alleged to have descended from both gods and men. But skepticism and sabotage delay Mark and his fellow archaeologists as the dig site is compromised, putting their discovery - as well as his very life - in grave danger. Deceived and framed by trusted friends and colleagues, Mark struggles to safeguard his findings and protect his reputation in order to unearth the mystery behind the Nephilim. About the author: Tracy Krauss grew up in small town Saskatchewan and has enjoyed writing numerous stories, plays, and novels for over twenty years. She received her Bachelor of Education degree in Saskatoon and has lived in many interesting places in northern Canada with her husband and four children. She is a full-time high school teacher of English, Drama, and Art and is also working on three other books. Tracy lives with her husband in Tumbler Ridge, British Columbia. And the Beat Goes On is the sequel to Play it Again.

My Review:

As I opened the book I usually read the Prologue and this one start with referring to Genesis 6:5 KJV in the Bible. This refers to where the angles came down from Heaven and went into the women of the earth and they bore giants.

As the book begins there is an archeological team headed by Mark Graham and as his assistance Laura Sawchuk along with some more members. They had found an underground burring site beneath an old tomb. They had already found some bones and something that look like large chicken bones with large wings.

They unearthed a few of the tombs but there in the center surrounded by the smaller tombs was the main one that they really wanted to get into. As they carefully moved the old silt they got the door open and there was this large casket and there is where they found the "PRIZE". As they were trying to get this out, they had a cave in and had to leave it in order to get out themselves. It was going to take a couple of weeks before the crew could get back inside, so in the meantime Mark's grandfather had passed away so he went home to Canada. When he returned they were soon back into the caves. Things were missing that they could not understand, some of the artifacts and some files from the computer. They got the "PRIZE" out and loaded onto a truck just as the African government came up and arrested Mark. No one knew why as they had permits for the dig and they were sending things out to New Mexico to a lab.

Meanwhile the dig was stopped and the crew and Mark was finally home. Things went from bad to worse as Mark lost his job and was sabotaged by two of his crew members. He was not getting any credit for all the work he had done. Will this dig ever prove that the pterodactyl and humans were living at the same time. Will this dig prove the Bible is correct or will the scientists still not believe what the Bible says?

I had better stop here before I tell the plot of the story and we want everyone to buy a copy of this beautiful book and read for yourselves.

This book was sent to me by the author Tracy L. Krauss for me to review.

Biography of Shannon Velasquez, spokesperson for Group's "Fun-for-the-Whole-Family Hour"

Growing up in Denver, Colorado, Shannon always knew she wanted to make a difference in the lives of children. Working for the Group VBS team is literally a dream come true, she has worked for the Group two years, working on projects such as Operation Kid-to-kid and vacation school.
Fun-for-the-Whole-Family Hour came out of a desire to extend the life-changing experiences of vacation Bible school. It brings families together for laughter, drama, and music, creating a starting point for family-building conversations.

Shannon resides in Fort Collins, Colorado, with her two dogs, an English bulldog named Churchill and her papillon named Chico. Churchill is a local celebrity, serving as the official mascot for a local elementary school.

About the game:

Fun-for-the-Whole-Family Hour is one action-packed hour where participants will discuss never-before-seen clips from the movie, listen to music, watch a skit, and grow in their faith. Participants will divide into family groups of no more than five. Each group is given their own expedition pack, which contains an interactive expedition map that uses water to reveal hidden messages, guiding each family to look at God’s transforming love in a whole new way. It also includes a CD with all the music so families can continue their adventure at home. Clips from the Narnia movie will help them explore how God’s love changes us. Fun-for-the-Whole-Family Hour makes reaching families easier than ever.

My Review:
This is a game for the whole family from our little five year old, our seven year old and the adults. This is a game that will teach you more about the Bible, while you play the game, listen to the music and just have fun together. We have always enjoyed the movie Narnda and this game showed clips when we could talk about it. Now I only have the leader pack and not yet bought the packs for my whole family. I would also like for my church group to try it out and maybe we can get a thing going at some of our gatherings.

I know I have not done justice to this great game but you really need to play it see what I am talking about.

This game was sent to me by B&B Media group for review.
