For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life. For God sent not His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved." John 3:16-17

Lars Walker new book "West Oversea" is the sequel to The Year of the Warrior, and Walker has again written a wonderful tale of adventure, heartache, and vikings.

In this journey, Irishmen priest Father Aillil accompanies the viking hero, Erling Skjalgsson on a journey to Greenland, there are many demons and temptations waiting for them. One of the many blessings of these books is the fact that Walker stays true to the characters that lived in these time periods. With the the viking culture, there is an epic clash between the old pagan ways and the new Christianity that is, now in this second book, completely dominant.

Also of note is the way Walker writes. He seems to draw inspiration from the original viking histories that have survived over the centuries. It leaves the reader with a powerful sense of the time period.

Thanks to Jerry from Nordskog Publishing for this review copy.

This is a great book, got some bad words in it that I don't use, but all in all the book was very good.
Jack Ketchum is out looking for his father and his gang that has always been really bad bandits. He found his father and things didn't go that well.

He meets this beautiful young lady that he could not get out of his mind. He becomes a good lawman but is always on the side of the law not matter what or who it hurts.

My Review:

Callie Duflay is a young woman who enjoys working as assistant camp director, and enjoys being involved in local causes. While walking the beach one day, Callie discovers that the Kitteridges are selling Otter Bay and it's being marked for development. She can't believe they would sell it, as they had promised the property to the town. Since then, the otters have returned and were rebuilding their lives. Callie decides she should do something about it, and starts a group to try to stop the development. For Gage the developer, everything is riding on this job and Callie could ruin it all for him. Callie believes she is doing the right thing, and so is Gage. But as time goes on, will they discover what the right thing really is?
"A Shore Thing" is a beautiful book about family, friendship, love, commitment, keeping promises, faith, and hope. It has some very good messages behind it, making it not only entertaining, but a book with values that gives you something you can take away with you long after you've finished.

3 boys + 1 Sailboat + 1 Ginormous storm = Lost Island Smugglers

Author Max Elliot Anderson has published his latest children’s adventure, Lost Island Smugglers, on August 1st. This is book #1 in the new Sam Cooper Adventure Series from Port Yonder Press.

“A traditional series is a departure for my writing,” Anderson said, “because all of my previous books have had completely different characters and settings.” Other titles to be released in this series include Captain Jack’s Treasure and River Rampage.

Sam Cooper had just moved to Harper’s Inlet where he met Tony and Tyler. While Tony’s father was away on a buying trip, the boys took one of the rental sailboats out for a diving adventure. Everything went well until the biggest storm Tony had ever seen blew up from out of nowhere, and the boys found themselves stranded on Lost Island.

But, if they thought the worst had happened, they were wrong. The boys discovered a secret hideout that was used by men in high powered speedboats. Sam and his friends knew the men were up to something, only they didn't know what. They had to find a way to stop them, but how? And, even if they did, the boys could never tell anyone about it. Lost Island Smugglers is a story with danger, excitement, and heart-pounding action.

In addition to this series, Mr. Anderson will publish Barney and the Runaway later this year, with Comfort Publishing. The publisher also plans to republish his first seven books which include Newspaper Caper, Terror at Wolf Lake, North Woods Poachers, Mountain Cabin Mystery, Big Rig Rustlers, Secret of Abbott’s Cave, & Legend of the White Wolf. Plans for additional titles are in the works.

Author Bill Myers reports, "Sam Cooper Adventures are like good, family movies . . . as an ordinary kid finds himself in exciting and extra-ordinary adventures!"

And author Jerry B. Jenkins adds, "Max Elliot Anderson brings a lifetime of dramatic film and video production to the pages of his action adventures and mysteries."
“My books will be available to bookstores through Ingram, and online at Amazon, Barnes and Noble, Borders, and others,” Mr. Anderson said.

Young and old readers report that reading one of Anderson’s action-adventures or mysteries is like being in an exciting or scary movie. His Books for Boys blog http://booksandboys.blogspot.com often ranks in the top ten in Google searches.

My Review:
What can I say except the story is about a little boy that is always on the move because of his Dad's work. He never gets to live in one place over two years, this move carried him down to Miami Fla. where his Dad will be working on the environment on the everglades. Sam does not want to move when the first Sunday they were there in the church he meet these other two boys and one of them was a son of a rich man and he thought he was the BIG BOSS.

Oh what these three young boys get into, Sam was always taught to mind his parents and do the right thing but sometimes, prer pressure gets to him and he does something that he didn't tell his parents about and this really could have cost the boys their lives. Three smart boys here that knew how to take care of themselves when their lives were at risk.

Faces In The Fire

My Review:
The story starts out with Kurt listening to dead people's clothing talking to him, he is all ways buying out sales where the person had dies and he packs them away in his garage. Kurt is an artist of sorts that welds the steel together to form something that he thinks that voice sounds like. I know about welding as my husband did that all his life, so that part I understand, I just don't understand why he keep buying all this clothing if it bothers him so much.

He make a lot of money of his art but sometimes drives a big rig for a friend to help him out. But all the time he hears these voices. He really has a time on this trip, as he had bought alone a pair of shoes that looks like a catfish and he hears the voice. He has trouble on this trip, tries to throw the shoes away but they always come back. He then picks up a young woman and she has as much going on in her head as he does.

My Thoughs:
This book was an ok read if you are into this type of reading but it really was weird to me. I really could not understand why Kurt would put himself through listening to the voices when no one made him buy the clothing.

A scream in the night, a sudden devastating crash of[either insert the word devastation after of, or delete of for briefer excerpt], and flight becomes the only option, beginning a stunning chain of events which will change not only his life, but the entire course of history. At every turn, evil has flooded the earth. Unbridled deceit, immorality, murder, and mayhem leave the godly remnant in dire straights with constant peril the only certainty. As the earth is shaken, its very survival and the fate of humanity hang in the balance.

My Review:

An action-filled novel that combines Biblical and scientific themes.
Traveling by sled, Japh spends the night in a infested floating forest. A scream in the night, a sudden crash and flight becomes his only option, beginning a chain of events which will change not only his life, but the entire course of history.

At every turn, evil has flooded the earth. Deceit, immorality, murder, and all leave the godly remnant as the only certainty. The earth is shaken, its very survival and the fate of humanity hang in the balance.

The author Phillip Stott takes us on a journey back to the future a few thousand years ago. The place is a world that only we can imagine and may not want too. Most everyone has forgotten God and only a few believe that God's judgment is coming.

My Thoughts:

The book is a very serious book to read and really was hard for me to understand. But as a Christian I do believe that Christ is coming back some day and taking His children home so we all need to watch and pray all the time as we do not know the time nor the hour. It is so much better to be ready when He comes.

VALERIA'S CROSS
by
Kathi Macias and Susan Wales

Synopsis

In the 3rd century, pampered Roman princess Valeria falls in love with Mauritius, captain of the Theban Legion. She sends him off to battle, where he suffers under the schemes of a notorious pagan general with an ambition for power and a lust for Valeria. In a scene based on true events, the evil Galerius kills Mauritius and his entire legion for their Christian faith. And in a shocking turn of events, the grieving Valeria is forced to become Galerius’ wife against her will. Never has a marriage been set up for such failure. Valeria loathes her new husband, but he seems to undergo a change of heart, adopting a child for her and giving her power and authority, and even love. She struggles with the commitment she knows she must keep, and the love she knows she will never find again.

My Review:

Though a fictional account, I found Valeria's Cross to be very believable. The struggles and that Valeria faced were so realistically done that it left me breathless. I totally understood her pain and her passion. She had a difficult life of having to continually prove her faith with the things her station required because of her role and position as the emperor,s daughter. I grieved with Valeria as she was a true martyr, for having to do so many things that she resisted at first, yet eventually conceded to. While women had some influence, the clearly had no power during that generation. Her suffering paid off, though, several times and she did experience joy in her life despite the heartache that preceded it. It fascinated me how the sign of the cross and ashes on the forehead were used by the early church as a way Christians showed their allegiance to Christ when they were forced to participate in pagan ceremonies, or die. Valeria was a compassionate and likable character whose doubts and feelings rang true. Her life sowed true forgiveness and she had a powerful testimony. What I loved best about Valeria was that she was portrayed as very human. She suffered from many temptations that are rarely shown in Christian fiction, which impressed me all the more. This sweeping romance was powerfully written, and emotionally evocative. The end of the book was really hard to take for me, it was powerfully written.

Healer
by
Review:
"Healer" is a historical romance set in 6th-century Scotland in the time of Arthur. The author of this book has spent considerable time researching the history of the early church and the customs of the day.
The novel explored the religions in Scotland during this time period, especially the difference between pagan witches and Christian-trained healers in how knowledge was used and who it was used for. This played a very strong role in the novel.
Brenna is a follower of Christ and gives Him all the glory for her visions, which include tingling and warnings of impending danger. As a child, Ronan O'Byrne witnessed his father's madness. Now an adult, the images are a constant reminder of Ronan's lost childhood. He's sick of the hunts for the missing woman but as the heir to the O'Byrne kingdom, doesn't know how to stop his father. A bit medieval, this was a compelling story.
Linda Windsor weaves together a tapestry of a tale that is filled with wonderful truths, sweet humor, remarkable faith, historical events, customs of the time, and a wealth of little things that make Healer seem so real. The imagery and the ties to some of the events in the story that relate to events in the Bible are intriguing and thought provoking, Healer, the first of the trilogy of The Brides of Alba, is a treasure to keep on one's bookshelf to be read more than once.

I received a copy from The B & B Media Group for review but was not asked to provide a positive review.
